Favorite Trails - Trails End Outdoors - Trail's End Getaways

Hey folks, I'm going to start on the east coast and head west with this list. Seems somehow fitting to me to do it that way since that's how the US frontier itself was forged.

-- Appalachian Trail (Comprehensive resource link) --

The Appalachian trail is the oldest and one of the longest trails in the US. While most people travel from Georgia to Maine along the trail, others sometimes travel the other direction. It has long been a tradition to keep a travel journal along the road, and many who walk the Appalachian trail have used the Internet to give their thoughts a home. As you follow the trail, you will find white blazes along the trees that mark the official trail route, and blue blazes that mark resting areas and side routes.

-- Continental Divide Trail (Comprehensive resource link)--

Running up and down the backbone of this nation, the Continental Divide Trail is a monumental trek over trecherous terrain that few dare to attempt all at once. Indeed, the trail isn't even officially "complete," but that doesn't stop people (including yours truly) from making the journey at least part of the way. The Continental Divide is an amazing place, one where the watershelves of the US are separated. If you make it all the way from Mexico to Canada, I'd love to hear about it!

-- Pacific Crest Trail -- (A comprehensive resource link)
From California all the way up Washington State, this is yet another trail from Mexico to Canada. If you can tackle this along with the two trails above, you'll truly have the triple crown of long-distance hiking!
